Step 1: register your account

Register your new account on the website, and wait for the confirmation email to arrive in your inbox. After this, you can log in again.

Step 2: book your places on courses

To book places on courses, you need to go to the Programme (find a link in the top menu). Click through the days and read about the courses, and if you want to add a course to your itinerary you will be given the option to do so on the description page for the course. Don't worry, it won't let you add anything that clashes!

When ready, proceed to Checkout, which you will reach via your personal dashboard screen. The dashboard can be reached by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the screen.

When you have checked out and paid, your courses will be confirmed and you will be unable to make further changes to your selection.

Step 3: pay the admin fee

After Checkout, you will be about to click on a link that takes you to the payment page. Payments are made through the University of Edinburgh ePay system. The cost is calculated based on the number of course days you attend: £20 per day. Easy. If the system doesn't quote the right fee based on what you have selected, please email, explaining the problem in detail so that we can investigate!

Some students are able to get the fee paid by administrative staff in their institution. If this is the case for you, please ensure that the administrator emails us on the above address to ensure that we can associate the e-receipt (which will have the administrator's name) with your Summer School account (which has your name).

Please note: we are not able to guarantee a refund of the fees in case you need to cancel your place.

I've been offered a free place, please help?

A small number of students have been offered free places. If you believe you fall in this category but have not received an email with instructions on how to claim your free place, please contact Helene Frossling on

Please note that this is by invitation only for students who have contributed significant content to Summer School or other SGSSS events during the year, and it is not a bursary that can be applied for.

I've been offered a free day but will want to attend more than one day, what do I do?

A small number of students have been offered one free day at SGSSS Summer School 2017. However, these students will need to pay for additional days of attendance. This requires a slightly different approach when checking out of the booking system. You may already have received instructions for this but if you haven't, please contact Helene Frossling on Please note that the free days are by invitation only, and this is not a general bursary.
